My Process: Preserving Your Flowers, Preserving Your Memories

As a florist with over 7 years of experience, I’ve always believed that flowers hold powerful memories—whether from weddings, funerals, births, or any special moment worth keeping close. My pressed flower preservation process was born from a deep love of florals and a desire to help those moments last a lifetime.

Here’s a look behind the scenes at how your blooms are transformed into lasting pieces of art:

1. Fresh Arrival Check

Once your flowers arrive, I begin by checking their freshness. Timing is everything—so the sooner I receive them after your event, the better! I assess which blooms are in good condition to press and gently sort them for the next steps.

2. Photo & Flower Inventory

I take a detailed photo of your bouquet or arrangement and make a list of each flower included. This step helps me create a plan and also serves as a reference to restore colors later on, since some blooms naturally fade during pressing.

3. Disassembly & Prep

Many flowers are too thick to press whole, so I carefully take each bloom apart, petal by petal. Each petal is then laid out on paper, spaced evenly to ensure a clean press. Using multiple layers of paper and cardboard, I stack the flowers and place them in our custom presses—this helps prevent mold and keeps moisture from getting trapped.

4. Controlled Drying

This is one of the most delicate parts of the process. The goal is to slowly and evenly remove moisture while preserving each flower’s shape and color. I use a dehumidifier in the pressing room to help regulate the environment and avoid damage. Drying flowers properly is both an art and a science—it’s taken years of trial and error to develop a method I trust.

5. The Waiting Game (4–8+ Weeks)

The flowers remain in the press for 4–8 weeks, depending on the type. Some varieties take even longer. It’s a slow process, but one that ensures the best results. Once they’re ready, I carefully remove them and begin reconstruction.

6. Color Correction & Reassembly

Now the fun begins! Each flower is reviewed, and I refer back to your original bouquet photo to guide the layout and ensure accurate color correction. Some flowers naturally lose pigment while drying, so I use professional-grade materials to restore vibrancy where needed—ensuring the colors remain rich and don’t fade over time.

7. Designing Your Keepsake

Once everything is pressed and color-corrected, I begin designing your layout based on your order details. Whether you chose a classic symmetrical style or a more whimsical, garden-inspired look, I follow your preferences—custom requests are always welcome! If you have an idea that’s not listed, don’t hesitate to reach out. I love collaborating to make each piece feel personal.

8. Framing With Purpose

After the layout is finalized, I secure the flowers into your chosen frame. All of my frames are made from solid wood and fitted with UV-protective art glass to shield your flowers from sunlight and time. I choose only the best materials because you deserve a keepsake that truly lasts.

9. Final Touches & Delivery

Every finished piece is photographed and inspected for quality. I take extra care in packaging to ensure your artwork arrives safely, whether through shipping or local delivery. I want the unboxing experience to be just as special as the moment it was made to remember.

Preserving flowers is time-consuming, meticulous, and often unpredictable—but the result is always worth it. Your blooms are transformed into art you can hold onto forever, and I’m honored to be part of that story.

If you have any questions about the process or want to chat about a custom idea, I’m just a message away.

With love and petals,
Monet
